What the Lord has Done in '20-'21

Despite the disruptions caused by COVID, the Lord has greatly blessed GSBC!  And he has blessed others thru GSBC!  The following is a praise report of what the Lord has done in and thru Good Shepherd Baptist Church during the past two years of the pandemic.


GSBC Missions Activities

2020-2021

  • On February 2, 2020 GSBC voted Michael Bartlett in as our pastor.   
  • On March 29, 2020 we began livestreaming Sunday morning services due to COVID.  
  • From March 2020 thru Memorial Day Weekend the Foundations class met by Zoom.  
  • Bible Fellowship during the two-year period included:
    1. Several groups of 3-4 met for G3R discipleship. 
    2. A group of ladies studied “The Joy of Encouragement” by David Jeremiah 
    3. The Women of the Word examined “Lady Heroes of the Faith”
    4. A ladies group participated in a study called “Are You Really OK?” by Debra Fileta 
  • In 2020 we distributed 29 bibles including 2 study bibles.
  • The following year we distributed more bibles thru VBS, church Welcome bags and Fall Fest.
  • In 2020 we purchased a portable baptistery and have baptized 11 people since then.
  • We’ve also added 22 new members to the church since 2020. 
  • In Giving and Benevolence--over the two-year period we ministered by:
  1. Distributing 35 food boxes to the elderly and disadvantaged.
  2. Giving a combined total of $1,700 in meal cards, vouchers, and cash for food assistance, and also providing 4 shelter assists.
  3. Giving $1,000 toward Hurricane Laura disaster relief. 
  4. Giving toward Teacher/Classroom/back-to-school needs
  5. Distributing 12 Summer Food Boxes plus a collection from the youth to help disadvantaged kids.
  • During the 2-year period at Linden Green and Linden Grove, we were blessed to provide the following:
  1. Nearly 100 Christmas Blessing Bags in 2020                                                   
  2. Soup and Crackers to senior residents in February 2021           
  3. 78 Resurrection Outreach/Spring Family Kits in April 2021
  4. 4 stand-up community gardens, flowers, veggies and soil in May 2021  
  5. “Outdoors with Kids” and “CHP Reads” June-Aug 2021
  6. Used household and furniture items to a displaced mother & son 
  7. 87 Backpacks with VBS Bible buddies 
  8. Nearly 100 Fall Fest Blessing Bags in 2021
  9. Turkey Baskets/Thanksgiving Meal contributions (by sign up) in 2021
  • In Outreach, we continued hosting the Christiansburg Soccer club; filled bottles with change for the CPC; adopted seniors at Warm Hearth for Christmas; showed appreciation to veterans and first responders by providing cookies; supplied mac and cheese to the Christmas store; ministered at the NRV Mall Fall Festival; hosted a Trunk or Treat; went Christmas caroling; and provided Christmas blessing bags to Richfield patients and guests at our candlelight service.  
  • In Missions–We provided over $2500 toward missions and training in various countries.
  • We also supported Operation Christmas Child, and the Annie Armstrong, Lottie Moon, and Cooperative Program missions; we sent blessing bags overseas, and provided warm clothing for Native Americans.
  • In addition, the VBS collection of $2,600 was used to provide Bibles and Gift Packs for Operation Heal our Patriots; and a Missionary Care Team was set up to support Derrick and Bailey Wood.
  •  Spiritual, premarital, and crisis counseling has been provided by Pastor Bartlett, Susan Bartlett, and other church leaders throughout 2020 and 2021
  • An Abiding Life Seminar and an online Disaster Relief Training were held in 2021. 
  • The church has made, and continues making safety and security improvements.
  •  We purchased a new banner for advertising and outreach. 
  • And we recently organized a C.A.R.E. Team to help with the ministry activities of the church. There are three coordinators: Dove Robertson, Kristi Canode, and Rhonda Owen. 
  •  A CARE Team page has been added to the church website and the activities calendar was recently updated.
