OUTREACH & MISSIONS MINISTRY AT GOOD SHEPHERD

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Our Jerusalem-

Please pray about becoming involved with on-campus and local outreach ministries:  G.R.O.W Ministry (God Rewards Our Work, based on the principle of sowing and reaping).  This ministry team contacts members and guests alike to encourage spiritual growth.  Neighborhood evangelism is a current objective of the group.  Training is provided – each member is asked to serve one Sunday evening per month.  Our Food Pantry helps those in need, not only to minister to the physical need of hunger, but the Gospel is communicated and an invitation is given to join us in worship.  Ready Church Training – team members prepare, connect and respond in the event of a disaster with the motivation to share Christ with others. Linden Green and, in 2015, Linden Grove (formerly Smokey Ridge) Community Outreach. We supply food items, school supplies, ride services, we host events, make home visits and give Bibles – our programs are designed to bring the Word and friendship to these families.  NRV Juvenile Detention Center – trained volunteers are needed to reach out to at-risk youth on 4th Saturday of each month, 7 pm.

Our Judea and Samaria-

Good Shepherd is blessed to partner with Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia in a variety of ways to minister to the lost in our region.  Pray for our affiliated leaders and for Current Projects of the SBCV www.sbcv.org .

You may join with members of Good Shepherd who serve with the Kairos Prison Ministry to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ with those who are incarcerated.  Be a part of our church team that has joined with Calvary Crosslink of Harrisonburg and others to evangelize New York and Staten Island by service projects and street witnessing. Only 1.5-3% of the population claims to know Christ, so the need is great!  Our ministry partners in Alaska await our arrival to reach multi-cultural populations there.

Discipleship of the believers in our Body is important.  Trained GSBC members who are called to shepherd in surrounding communities are invaluable to the work of Church Planting in our region.

To the Ends of the Earth-

If you’ve heard the stories of tragedy in many parts of our world, you can help by registering for International Disaster Relief Training by SBCV and Baptist Global Response.  Related to international missions, Good Shepherd has maintained partnerships with native missionaries and organizations in the following countries:  Dominica  – Haiti   –  Ghana  –  Peru-  Israel  –  Ukraine  –  Nepal  –  Montreal.   Our church supports programs and offerings which take the Gospel to the farthest reaches:  North American Mission Board, International Mission Board, Advancing Native Missions, Gleaning for the World, Missions Forums, Lottie Moon are examples.  Get connected with those of our Body who have a burden and are actively serving with these groups.

Missions Training will resume Sunday evenings 4pm-5pm beginning September 13th, running through October, for those interested in advancing themselves toward sharing the Gospel, locally and to other classes and cultures of people.  Everyone needs the hope of Christ and His salvation!
